JBL Wins The Reddot Design Award For The on Tour Micro
The red dot design award dates back to 1955 and is now one of the world’s largest and most distinguished design competitions. More than 14,000 participations from over 70 nations document the relevance of the internationally sought-after red dot.
In 2012, 1,800 large companies and independent designers from 58 countries registered to the “red dot award: product design” and grabbed their chance to prove their design ability in an international comparison with renowned designers and up-and-coming talents. Within the competition’s 19 different categories, a total of 4,515 registrations have been submitted.
With growing competitive pressure on the international markets, it is now more important than ever for manufacturers to set themselves apart from the competition by proving quality rather than simply pursuing an aggressive pricing policy. More and more designers are also benefiting from the award. They are using the red dot to present themselves to their clients and as a visual aid that emphasises their own strength.
The jury for the red dot design award has high-level expertise and is absolutely independent. Members of the jury for the “red dot award: product design 2012” pledge to a “Code of Honour” and are excluded from taking part in the competition.
Furthermore, the red dot jury comprises design experts of international repute, whose background allows them to consciously assess the special intercultural aspects of design.
The products are assessed in nineteen different groups. The differentiation in the product categories means that the expertise is even more focused, as experts who assess the entries are carefully selected for each individual product group. The jury teams appraise, test and rate the products in detail on location, based on criteria such as degree of innovation, functionality, self-explanatory quality or ecological soundness.
Consequently, the results in a category ultimately reflect the future of the respective industry in terms of design, and thus serve as a guide for manufacturers and designers worldwide.
